wmp 11 start up

WMP 11 at Start up?

I am discovering new things each day with Vista beta. I was checking an issue and used defender to see what programs are running at startup - WMP11 was listed is this necessary for sync or something to have this at boot time or can I safely disable via Defender. I have checked through the settings for the media player itself but don't see any option to load on use instead of at startup. Appreciate advice. I would disable immediately in XP but as Vist is a lot different I wondered if there was a reason for this as I think it is seen as a network.

Media Player starts from boot because it opens a connection to sync to URGE the default store and also to gather info from gracenote, for your ID3 tags. i dont think it would be an issue to diable it, but it should reopen once you start Media Player.

Thank you for the explanation. I think I will try disable and then see if anything happens next time I boot as I am only listening to the few CD's I have ripped so far and detail are there. Possibly like itunes or Beosound which I have on my laptop and other computer but have safely removed from starting up at boot. thanks
